Vocation

We are women called by God who is Love ” to follow Jesus Christ in a consecrated life which is both contemplative and apostolic.” Constitutions #11.

Our vocation is characterized by the “Word of God which is central in our lives…The Spirit enables us to discover the link between the concrete events of life and the Word. “ Constitutions #6

God’s Word calls us to build bridges of understanding among:

  • Christians and Jews and people of all faiths
  • those in situations of conflict and oppression

God’s Word calls us to commit ourselves to a world of justice, peace and love.

PREPARATION AND FORMATION FOR RELIGIOUS LIFE

The first step is a time to get to know the Sisters of Sion by being involved in various opportunities such as study days, reflection groups, community gatherings, prayer and individual sharing. Through discernment and prayer, the initial formation begins and is about three years which involves community living,  work and study,  and a year of scripture and spirituality. After initial formation, there are temporary vows and final vows after six years.

VOWED MEMBERS:

Women “who have heard the personal call of God, the summons to total love. ..It comes today through Jesus Christ in his  Church. ‘If you will…come follow me.’” Constitutions. #20

There are three vows:

  • Chastity – “… a personal love which enables us to express joyfully our radical discipleship.” Constitutions #23
  • Poverty – “…a conversion to simplify our lives…to love God by giving of ourselves.”  Constitutions  #35
  • Obedience – “ …freely choosing  to become members…to carry out whatever God requires of us.” Constitutions  #41

Sr. Celia Deutsch says: “ I love my vocation with a passion and I want to share it”.  Read charism stories.

We have two “branches” of Sisters of Sion: Apostolic Sisters  and Contemplative Sisters
